My Story

April this year I sadly lost my dad to his ongoing battle with cancer, which he had fought long and hard through since September 2023.

My dad was the biggest fighter and despite the numerous surgeries and treatments, his condition continued deteriorating, but he also continued to live his life as much as he could. And that is something I admire about him a lot, something the bravest of people could do and my dad was definitely one of them. Dad was a big family man, he loved to socialise with friends, help out wherever he could even, if you were a stranger to him, was a huge foodie and an even bigger Christmas fan.

Dad fought for 2.5 years, but it was around October last year we found out his condition was terminal, which was honestly devastating. Throughout the last and hardest 6 months of his life, he knew he wanted to be at Arthur Rank, and thankfully he was given that option.

I am truly grateful that I have been given this opportunity to take on such a challenge in memory of my dad. Having completed the Cambridge half in 2024 for him, I knew I wanted to take on something even bigger and to fundraise for a charity that has shown my family and my dad so much care, respect and dignity. I want to fundraise beyond the £2000 if possible, as I hope to contribute to helping more people like my family in the future, so that they too can have the same options that my dad had.

Any donations would be beyond appreciated and my family and I would be so grateful for. The team at Arthur Rank have been incredible and their support in my dad’s final day, which came unexpectedly, was truly outstanding.

I’m doing this for you dad ❤️

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Our Outstanding services are provided free of charge to patients and their families.

We care for around 3,800 patients each year at our Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in patients town homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.

It will cost £14 million to run our services. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £8.1 million, meaning that £5.9 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. We are extremely grateful to our local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting us to meet this target.
