My Story

In 2008, I ran the London Marathon in memory of my brother Stephen, who died by suicide in 2004, aged just 25. The whole marathon experience was emotional, humbling, inspiring, and one that I’ve been keen to try again – maybe with a slightly better finish time.

18 years on, I’m 43 with a child of my own, and an ever-evolving grief for the brother I lost when I was 21. Increasingly I think about what a wonderful and gentle uncle he would have been to my daughter, and how hilarious he would find it that I wrote a book about Charlton Athletic. Stephen is missed every single day.

The pain of losing a loved one by suicide never leaves you. I’m running to show others there is always hope. I'm running to help save other people the grief we've endured. I'm running to raise money to help Samaritans be there, day and night, for anyone who's struggling to cope.

I am not a runner; in fact, I actually sort of hate running, so this won’t be easy! Please consider chipping me a couple of quid to make the missing toenails worth it. Every step I take and every pound we raise can help train more volunteers, answer more calls for help and, ultimately, save lives. I'm running to show millions of people that no matter what they're facing, a Samaritan will face it with them.

Together we can save lives.
